Anna America has long been committed to helping make Tulsa an
even better place to raise her family, and has worked toward that
goal in both her professional and personal life.
A University of Tulsa graduate, Anna started as a newspaper
reporter with the Tulsa Tribune, where among other beats she
covered City Hall. She worked as a journalist for several different
publications, then did communications for the City of Tulsa, and
eventually moved to the nonprofit world.
She served as executive director of Tulsa nonprofits Up With
Trees and Communities in Schools, and also was elected to the Tulsa
School Board. In 2014, she was elected to represent southeast Tulsa
on the Tulsa City Council. Last year, she was re-elected without
opposition and currently serves as City Council chair and leads the
largest group of women -- five -- ever to serve on the 9-member
An active community volunteer, Anna is the proud mom of two
students at Booker T Washington High School. Her daughter is a
freshman at BTW, and her son will graduate this year and begin his
freshman year at Washington University in St. Louis in the
fall. She is also wife to Tulsa environmental leader Michael
Patton who is the director of Land Legacy, an Oklahoma conservation
